ELIZABETH EDWARDS

Elizabeth Edwards,  the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died on Tuesday 6 November 2010 at the age of 61 at North Carolina after her six year battle to cancer.

She is the author of the best-selling book Resilience ( about her husband extramarital affair, written in 2009 )

In 2006, after her initial cancer diagnosis, she also wrote Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers which chronicled the aftermath of her son's death and her battle with the disease.
Statement from the family said: "Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth's presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life."
There are also some other statements from present and formerpolitical people :
President Barrack Obama :
"Michelle and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Elizabeth Edwards. This afternoon I spoke to Cate Edwards and John Edwards, and offered our family's condolences. I came to know and admire Elizabeth over the course of the presidential campaign. She was a tenacious advocate for fixing our health care system and fighting poverty, and our country has benefited from the voice she gave to the cause of building a society that lifts up all those left behind.
"In her life, Elizabeth Edwards knew tragedy and pain. Many others would have turned inward; many others in the face of such adversity would have given up. But through all that she endured, Elizabeth revealed a kind of fortitude and grace that will long remain a source of inspiration. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Elizabeth Edwards. America has lost a passionate advocate for building a more humane and just society, for reforming our health care system, and for finding a cure for cancer once and for all. But the Edwards family and her legion of friends have lost so much more -- a loving mother, constant guardian, and wise counselor. Our thoughts are with the Edwards family at this time, and with all those people across the country who met Elizabeth over the years and found an instant friend--someone who shared their experiences and offered empathy, understanding and hope. She made her mark on America, and she will not be forgotten."
Former President Bill Clinton:
"With the passing of Elizabeth Edwards, America has lost a symbol of strength, hope, and humanity, a tireless advocate for health care for all Americans, and determined crusader for cancer cures. Her children have lost a loving mother, her friends a wise counselor. My prayers are with them. She was a remarkable woman who dealt with the challenges her life dealt her with courage and grace."
the Bethel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, N.C. where Elizabeth and John Edwards married on July 30, 1977:
"It saddens our hearts to hear of the passing of Elizabeth Edwards. She was a great mother and a strong leader whose life impacted the world. As a church, we pray that the presence of Christ will be real to the family as they grieve her loss."

WADE EDWARDS CAR ACCIDENT

Wade Edwards, the son of John Edwards-the former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, suddenly became a hot search in internet after to his mother's death, Elizabeth Edwards, on Tuesday 6 November 2010.

Wade died in a car accident on April 1996 at the age of 16. At that time he was a high school student at Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He died three weeks before after attending the awards ceremony for a national essay for high school students co-sponsored by the Voice of America and National Endowment for the Humanities. He was a finalist in that contest.

As An honor student, a winner of national, state, and local writing awards, a high school athlete, an editor of the yearbook, and a cherished friend, Wade is an example of excellence, compassion, and character.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Wade participated for over ten years at various levels with the Capital Area Soccer League. He attended Woodberry Forest Sports Camp, the Colorado Outward Bound School, and every home basketball game of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. He went white water rafting in Arizona and fly-fishing in Colorado. And he taught his family -- and many of his friends -- how to use a computer.

In the summer of 1995, he and his father successfully climbed the difficult Machame and Shira route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, at 19,343 feet the highest peak in Africa. Matt Leonard, a friend who climbed with them, later became the first Director of the Wade Edwards Learning Lab.

Wade worked after school for his father's law firm, Edwards & Kirby, and he participated in Broughton High School's community service program, working for the Wake Education Partnership, the Daniels Middle School Parent-Teacher Association, political campaigns, and Broughton High School.

Senator Helms, whom Wade met in March 1996, gave a eulogy for Wade on the floor of the United States Senate. The local newpaper, the News and Observer, wrote a tender editorial about Wade's death called "A Great Kid."

In Wade's name, members of the community helped Wade's family and friends establish the Wade Edwards Foundation for the purpose of motivating, inspiring, and rewarding young people.

There have been other tributes to Wade as well. His sister, Cate, who had just turned 14 when Wade died, wrote a poem in his memory. His friend, then student body president-elect Hayes Permar, wrote a song. Another song was written and recorded by Indoor Storm. Wade's elementary school planted a tree in his name at the school and placed a memory brick in their walk. The Junior Classical League renamed their spring gathering as Attic Night, in recognition of Wade's Latin name, Atticus. The Latipac, Broughton's yearbook, now gives an annual award in Wade's name, and the 1997 yearbook was dedicated to his memory. The Capital Area Soccer League memorialized him in the program of the 1996 Shoot Out. Jim Jenkins, a columnist for the News and Observer, wrote "Wade's Legacy of Wisdom and Love."

The North Carolina Trial Lawyers Association renamed the state moot court competition. It is now called the Wade Edwards High School Mock Court Competition, drawing participants from all over the state competing for the privilege of representing the state at the national high school moot court competition. The 1999 winners, from Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, finished fifth nationally, North Carolina's best showing ever.

BMW RECALL

After the biggest egg recall in the U.S last month,  another big recall occurs. Nearly 200,000 luxury vehicles in that country are being recalled to fix leaks in the braking system. Cars affected by the problems are V8 and V12 engine cars in the BMW 5, 6 and 7 ranges, and Rolls-Royce – a BMW subsidiary – built between July 2001 and November 2009.

What's wrong with the braking system?
According to the spokesman of the company, in the affected vehicles, a leak may develop in the power braking system, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance.

This is not the first recall done by the company. Last 2 years, in August 2008 BMW announced a recall of 200000 cars and small SUVs because of possible airbag failure.

Even the recall may extend to 350,000, no accidents or injuries reported.

NEW PLANET LIKE EARTH DISCOVERED 2010 - GLIESE 581 G

This year astronomers have discovered a new planet like earth located in the "Goldilocks Zone", that is close to earth. They believe that the planet can sustain human life since it has liquid water , proper gravity, atmosphere and surface to support human life. The size of this planet is three times as big as our planet, Earth. It is 20 light years from Earth’s solar system (+ 194 trillion km from Earth ).

Even the condition is similar to our Earth ( the system with an inner clutch of rocky, terrestrial planets and a big planet like Jupiter further out) it does not mean that life exists on the planet. The planet does not rotate. That means one side is always sunny and hot while the other is cold and dark.. But some scientists believe that there should be a belt in the middle which would have constantly pleasant weather.

SYDNEY RICE

When the news about  Sidney Rice who is going to have surgery to repair his injured hip broke last night , the Vikings was looking for options to replace his production. The decision to have surgery or not is still taking  place behind closed doors with the Vikings and the team doctors. Although there is a possibility that he’ll be able to play through the injury, doing so could make the situation worse in the long run if he forces it any further. That seems to be enough to convince Rice and the Vikings to undergo the surgery now  to cut off any future problems at the knee, rather than risk having him be lost for the entire season if not more.

FBI vs WIKIPEDIA

News report said that this week FBI (Federal Bureau Investigation) had sent a letter to Wikipedia Foundation, ordering the removal of an image of the Bureau's seal from Wikipedia entry. The response from the foundation had basically been, "no."

The FBI Seal is an official insignia of the Department of Justice. Its primary purpose is to authenticate the official communications and actions of the FBI. Unauthorized reproduction or use of the FBI Seal is against the 18 United States Code, Section 701, which provides:
Whoever manufactures, sells, or possesses any insignia, of the design prescribed by the [Department head] or any colordble imitation thereof, or photographs, prints, or in any other manner makes or executes any engraving, photograph, print, or impression in the likeness of any such insignia, or any colorable imitation thereof, except as authorized under regulation made pursuant to law, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both...

The Wikipedia Foundation firmly believes that it is not in the wrong here, and is prepared to go to court with the FBI, if it comes to that, as Godwin notes in the letter.

It will be interesting to see further news about the case, whether the FBI pursues this or not, as everyone else wonders why the FBI isn't focused on more pressing matters. I can't imagine what harm the FBI's seal is doing on a non-profit community encyclopedia site aimed at spreading knowledge.

MICHELE OBAMA VACATION IN SPAIN 2010

Many people talk about Michele Obama's vacation in Spain. The first lady has a four-day private trip with her youngest daughter, Sasha, in Spain. They flight by Air Force Two and landed in Malaga Airport. She chooses a luxurious hotel Villa Padierna, a Ritz-Carlton resort in the mountains outside Marbella. The resort boasts two golf courses, a posh spa with Turkish baths, views of the Mediterranean Sea and a high-end restaurant specializing in avant-garde fare. Room rates start at $400 and rise to $6,500 for a two-bedroom villa with a private pool and 24-hour butler service.

Even the Officials say the Obamas will pay for personal expenses, still the vacation draws critics from many sides. It is because people read from the news that 68 secret service agents from U.S and several family friends are accompanying her. The aircraft that she uses costs the government $11,555 an hour, and the total cost of eight-hour flight to nearby Malaga for round-trip is about $178,000.

Anita McBride, who was chief of staff to former First Lady Laura Bush, was not surprised that the trip has its critics.

"When you are a public figure, it can be difficult to lead a private life. Despite the fact that much of this trip is paid for personally, the American people know that there are costs borne by the taxpayers, and it's to be expected that the more expensive the trip, the greater the risk of criticism," McBride said.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has declined to answer questions about the vacation, saying only that it is a "private trip."

SEND IN THE CLOWNS

"Send in the Clowns" is a song written by Stephen Sondheim from the 1973 musical A Little Night Music, an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night. It is a ballad from Act II in which the character Desirée reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. Among other things, she looks back on an affair years earlier with the lawyer Fredrik. Meeting him after so long, she finds that he is now in an unconsummated marriage with a much younger woman. Desirée proposes marriage to rescue him from this situation, but he declines, citing his dedication to his bride. Reacting to his rejection, Desirée sings this song. The song is later reprised as acoda after Fredrik's young wife runs away with his son, and Fredrik is finally free to accept Desirée's offer.
This song was written specifically for the actress Glynis Johns, who created the role of Desirée on Broadway. The song consists of four verses and a bridge, and uses a complex triple meter. It became Sondheim's most popular song after Judy Collins and Frank Sinatrarecorded it in 1975. Subsequently, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey,Zarah Leander, Tiger Lillies and many other famous artists have recorded the song, and it became a jazz standard.
(Taken from wikipedia)

Here is the lyric of the song
Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

and here is the video
